- Rennyo Shonin was the eighth abbott of Jodo Shinshu. His letters played an important part in enabling the clear expression of Pure Land Buddhism in a way that the people of his time could readily understand.

Reflections on the Kyo Gyo Shin Sho [PDF]
- This article is an introduction the Kyo Gyo Shin Sho by Professor Emeritus of Ryukoku University, Dr Inagaki Hisao.
- The Kyo Gyo Shin Sho (The True Teaching, Practice and Realisation) belongs to the shastra class of Buddhist literature. Researched, written and compiled by Shinran between 1224 and 1247, it is a compendium of the Pure Land Buddhist teachings of Shakyamuni Buddha and the Dharma Masters. It forms the theoretical basis of the Pure Land way, which Shinran later celebrated in his hymns.
